Atka, AK

Atka is a small city on the east side of Atka Island in Alaska's Aleutians West Census Area. The island is volcanic, and the community's setting in the Aleutian chain is central to how it feels: remote, maritime, windy, and far from mainland Alaska. Atka is served by Aleutian Region Schools and had 53 residents in the 2020 census. It is one of those Alaska places where geography, weather, and cultural continuity carry more weight than population size.
