Atlantic, VA

Atlantic is a census-designated place in Accomack County on Virginia's Eastern Shore, a low-lying place where Atlantic Road leads toward Wallops Island and the coast. The 2020 census counted 808 residents, and the CDP sits about 36 feet above sea level. Farms, small roads, and scattered homes fill the land between Route 13 and the Wallops complex, putting the community inside a landscape that is both agricultural and aerospace-oriented. The nearby launch range began as a NACA test facility in 1945 and now supports NASA, defense, and commercial space work.

The regional aerospace presence sits alongside ordinary county life. Residents use Accomack County schools, roads, and services, with Chincoteague and other Eastern Shore communities providing larger employment and shopping connections. The Wallops Island National Wildlife Refuge and the route toward Chincoteague add protected coastal land to the same map. Atlantic is therefore defined by proximity: a named rural settlement close to one of the country's active launch ranges, with everyday life organized around fields, county roads, and the water-bound geography of the Eastern Shore.
