Atmautluak, AK

Atmautluak is a small Yup'ik village of about 380 residents located along the Pitmiktakik River in Alaska's Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. While Yup'ik families have lived and fished in the area for generations, the permanent townsite came together in the 1960s on higher ground away from seasonal high water. Today, life revolves around the seasons and the river, with travel shifting from skiffs in the summer to snowmachines across the ice in winter. Governed by a traditional tribal council, it is a quiet, tight-knit community anchored by subsistence fishing, hunting, and Native customs.
