Atoka, OK

Atoka is the Atoka County seat in southeastern Oklahoma, with 3,195 residents in the 2020 census. US 69 and US 75 run north-south directly through town, while State Highways 3 and 7 skirt the southern edge, giving Atoka a road-network role that reaches beyond its size. The city grew where Choctaw and Chickasaw settlement, the North Boggy River, and eventually the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad met. The highways keep Atoka connected to Dallas, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City. That reach matters in a county-seat town with farms nearby, too.

Atoka’s name honors a Choctaw subchief, and the city’s county-seat role still sits alongside older tribal and territorial layers. Atoka Public Schools cover most of the city, with Tushka schools serving part of the south side, while Kiamichi Technology Center and Atoka County Medical Center extend services beyond K–12. The nearby Boggy Depot area and Confederate Museum add historical stops, but daily life is roads, schools, county offices, and the hardwood-and-water country around town.
