About Atqasuk
Atqasuk is a small Iñupiat city in the North Slope Borough, Alaska, situated along the Meade River. Home to approximately three hundred residents, the town's name means downslope in the Iñupiaq language, and the area has been historically used for generations by the Iñupiat for hunting and fishing. Atqasuk is part of a long-term network of Arctic research sites studying permafrost, and educational services are provided by the Meade River School.
