Attica, IN

Attica is a Fountain County city on the Wabash River, where U.S. 41 and State Routes 28 and 55 meet in western Indiana. The 2020 census counted 3,036 residents. George Hollingsworth platted the town in 1825 and ran a ferry across the river; the Wabash and Erie Canal arrived in 1847, followed by rail in 1858. Those two transportation eras turned a river crossing into a commercial and industrial town. The river and bridge remain the town's clearest physical reference, even from its inland blocks.

Perry Street and the Attica Downtown Historic District retain the brick blocks built during the canal-and-rail boom. The Paul Dresser Bridge links Attica with Warren County, while Harrison Steel remains a major industrial name. The Attica Public Library, city parks, trails, and nearby Portland Arch add current places to the old river map.
