Attica, OH

Attica is a Seneca County village built around a road junction that predates its current street grid. The Columbus-Sandusky Pike was surveyed through the area in 1827, and the New Haven Road followed in 1828; those routes became today's Ohio 4 and U.S. 224 and formed the village square. The 2020 census counted 873 residents. The name came from a pioneer settler's hometown in New York, and Clara Ayres, one of the first American women to die in World War I, is buried in the local cemetery.

Attica is part of Seneca East Local School District, with Seneca East High School serving the surrounding rural area after consolidation with Republic. Village offices, Main Street, the school route, and the road intersection still organize daily movement. Attica also carries Tree City USA recognition, so street trees and municipal care are part of its civic presentation. The village's history is easy to read in its geometry: two nineteenth-century roads meet at the square, and the routes still connect homes, farms, school, and county services.
