Atwood, IL

Atwood sits across the Douglas–Piatt county line in east-central Illinois, with Main Street running along the boundary and the Lake Fork River nearby. The village had 1,116 residents in the 2020 census. Its incorporation began with an 1883 petition signed by 30 residents, followed by a January 1884 vote to organize the village. That origin story still shows up in the map: one side of Main Street falls in Douglas County and the other in Piatt County, so county services and road references can change at the center line.

Atwood has an annual date on the calendar: the Apple Dumpling Festival fills the third weekend of August. The village chamber lists businesses, churches, and community contacts around North Main Street, while the town’s position between Decatur and Champaign keeps larger trips within the regional orbit.
