About Avalon
Avalon was platted in 1869 on Missouri Route H, about a mile east of U.S. 65 and ten miles southeast of Chillicothe. Livingston County histories describe it as a trading center whose name was transferred from Avallon in France. The former school stood at the center of the community until reorganization placed the larger Tina–Avalon program on the highway south of Avalon in Carroll County. Today the small census-designated place is tied to the U.S. 65 corridor, Livingston County farm roads, and the services concentrated in Chillicothe. Its old townsite remains a rural settlement between highway traffic and open fields.
