Avon Lake's biggest current shoreline question is what follows its demolished power plant. The privately owned site covers roughly 43 acres on Lake Erie; in May 2026, City Council rezoned it and adopted a lakefront mixed-use overlay. The city had an agreement to buy about 23 lakefront acres for a future public park, but the projected late-2026 or early-2027 closing remained contingent on the agreement's environmental and other conditions. It was therefore a redevelopment plan, not yet another public beach. The city had 25,206 residents in 2020; its July 2024 estimate was 26,342. Existing lake access comes in smaller pieces. Miller Road Park combines a paved shoreline walk and year-round fishing pier with a seasonal boat launch; Veterans' Memorial Park has a boardwalk, small-boat storage, and rental buildings; more than three miles of wooded trails enter Kopf Family Reservation beside the public library.

In 2026, free summer concerts alternated between Miller Road and Veterans' Memorial parks, with food trucks and yard games alongside the music. The 2020-through-2024 profile found 83 percent owner occupancy, a $368,300 median owner-occupied value, $1,949 in monthly owner costs with a mortgage, and $1,537 median gross rent. Median household income was $115,567, and workers averaged about 29 minutes of travel to work. For residents, today's shore remains a network of established parks, paths, a pier, and boat access; the former plant tract is still a consequential future project rather than a finished amenity.
