About Bainbridge

Bainbridge is a Chenango County community with two overlapping maps: the Town of Bainbridge and the Village of Bainbridge at its center. The Susquehanna River runs through the town, entering from the east and bending south, while Routes 7 and 206 meet by the village. The town’s older history reaches back to Iroquois communities and Revolutionary-era conflict; the village was established in 1829 and grew into the commercial center for the surrounding farms and river valley.

Current business is split in a useful way. The town board meets monthly at Town Hall on Main Street and handles roads, planning, courts, assessments, and other services; the village maintains its own offices, public works garage, water notices, and local laws. The village green hosts flea-market mornings, General Clinton Park brings outdoor events, and the 1910 theater still gives the center a place for shows. River access, farmland, and weekly event emails keep Bainbridge connected beyond its compact downtown. The river also keeps the town’s eastern and southern edges legible on a map.
