Bainbridge, PA

Bainbridge is an unincorporated Conoy Township community on PA 441 in western Lancaster County. The 2020 census counted 1,536 residents. Its deeper story reaches back to a Conoy village and the movement of Conoy and Nanticoke people into this Susquehanna country in the early 1700s. The current road follows the river corridor, with Middletown about nine miles northwest and Columbia about ten miles southeast. Bainbridge is small, but its map opens quickly toward water and the rail-era valley towns nearby.

Koser Park starts a paved trail that runs about 15 miles through Marietta and Columbia, and the White Cliffs of Conoy rise south of the community above the Susquehanna. The cliffs are the leftover face of a limestone quarry, so the most memorable view is also an industrial remnant. Local streets, the river, trail, and quarry country all meet around PA 441. As a CDP, Bainbridge shares Conoy Township's government, with the road and river doing much of the orienting.
