Baker is a desert census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, located along Interstate 15 near the Nevada border. Founded in 1908 as a railroad station, the community of approximately 450 residents is a gateway to Death Valley National Park and serves primarily as a tourist stop. Baker is best known locally for the World's Tallest Thermometer monument and its proximity to the California State University Desert Study Center.
