About Ballard

Ballard is an unincorporated community and the smallest and oldest settlement in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County, California. Located near the city of Solvang, the town was founded in 1880 on the site of a Wells Fargo stage line station. It was named after William Ballard, who operated the station in the 1860s. Today the community is a residential, mostly residential town surrounded by regional vineyards and agricultural land.
