About Bangor

Bangor is a Butte County CDP in a shallow valley of the northern Sierra foothills, about a mile and a half from the Yuba County line. The place began as an 1855 mining boomtown, named by the Lumbert brothers for their hometown in Maine. Today the North Sierra Wine Trail runs through the same foothill country, and Bangor Ranch Winery keeps the old town name on the bottle. Bangor is northern California in a gold-rush-to-grape shape, with the hills doing the transition.
