About Banning
Banning residents receive electric service from the city itself. Banning Electric Utility is a publicly owned, not-for-profit system with six distribution substations and 134 miles of power lines, placing utility billing inside local government. The city occupies the San Gorgonio Pass between Mount San Gorgonio and Mount San Jacinto, and that east-west corridor still organizes daily travel. Banning Connect Route 1 links the courthouse, San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital, Walmart, Mount San Jacinto College's Pass campus, Cabazon, the outlet center, and the Morongo area. A separate circulator runs through Banning seven days a week, though weekend service has a midday break. The published general fare is $1.25, with discounted fares and a dial-a-ride program available under separate rules. Repplier Park concentrates much of the city's recreation on San Gorgonio Avenue. The complex includes a community center, senior center, gymnasium, skate park, tennis courts, playground, picnic space, ballfield, and the Playhouse Bowl amphitheater.
Its Aquatic Center opens seasonally; the 2026 schedule included daytime open-swim sessions, evening family swims, and Aqua Zumba. Across Banning, the city maintains more than 60 developed acres in six parks. The mix ranges from Little League fields at Lions Park to a rodeo arena and grandstand at Dysart Equestrian Park, the site of Stagecoach Days rodeo activity. A July 2025 Census estimate placed Banning at 31,852 residents, 7.9 percent above its April 2020 estimate base. For 2020 through 2024, 70.2 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied, the median value of those homes was $352,100, and median gross rent was $1,650. The age-65-and-older share was 27.7 percent during 2020 through 2024, while the mean trip to work was 32.6 minutes. That age profile makes the senior center, discounted transit, and centrally located public recreation especially relevant pieces of city infrastructure.
