Barnes Lake, MI

Barnes Lake is a Lapeer County CDP in Deerfield Township, centered on the lake that gives it its name. The community used to share one census label with Millers Lake; before the 2020 census, the two were split into separate CDPs, with M-24 forming the line between them. Barnes Lake is on the east side of the highway, Millers Lake on the west, and both drain toward the Flint River. The Barnes Lake Club manages lake rules and membership for the surrounding property owners. This is a very Michigan kind of place-name: one road, two lakes, and a statistical boundary that finally caught up with the local map.
