Barnesville, GA

Barnesville offers a quiet, small-town setting in central Georgia, sitting roughly an hour south of Atlanta and 40 minutes northwest of Macon. Home to around 6,300 people, the Lamar County seat has roots stretching back to the 1820s. The town earned fame around the turn of the twentieth century as the "Buggy Capital of the South" for its thriving carriage factories, a quirky piece of history that locals still celebrate today.

Every September, the community gathers downtown for the annual Buggy Days festival, which fills the historic streets with parades, craft booths, and local food. The rest of the year, day-to-day life centers on a walkable courthouse square filled with local diners, antique shops, and a seasonal farmers market. With Lamar County schools and a Gordon State College campus right in town, Barnesville provides solid everyday amenities alongside its easygoing rural pace.
