Barneveld, NY

Barneveld is a hamlet located within Trenton in Oneida County, New York, United States. The 2010 census counted 284 residents. The name is derived from the name of the Dutch statesman Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. The hamlet is in the eastern part of the town on NY 365. That mix gives Barneveld a clear local shape within New York, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The village was founded in 1793 by Gerrit Boon, an agent of the Holland Land Company. Mappa Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
