About Bassett
Bassett is a Chickasaw County city whose nineteenth-century growth followed the railroad across northeast Iowa. County histories record a station there on the line that crossed the county in 1869, and an older local account says the name came from Bassett and Hunting, a wheat-buying firm connected with the railroad. A post office operated from 1872 to 1957. Today Bassett has a city government on Main Street and remains part of the county's farm-and-rail corridor between New Hampton and Charles City, with the Cedar Valley's roads and small-town services close at hand.
