Bastrop, LA

Bastrop is a small community in northeastern Louisiana, located about a half-hour drive north of Monroe where Highways 165 and 425 meet. As the parish seat of Morehouse Parish, it is home to just under 10,000 residents and centers around a classic courthouse square. The town has deep roots in timber and farming. Over the years, the local job market has shifted from paper milling toward wood products, poultry processing, and agriculture, giving the area a steady, working-town atmosphere.

Day-to-day life includes local parish schools, a branch campus of Louisiana Delta Community College, and community exhibits at the Snyder Museum. Outdoor enthusiasts spend weekends at nearby Chemin-A-Haut State Park, known for freshwater fishing, cabin rentals, and paddling along Bayou Bartholomew. For regional airports, specialized hospital care, and big-box shopping, residents make the quick trip south to Monroe. Summers are long, hot, and humid with regular afternoon rain, while winters are generally mild and short.
