Bath (Berkeley Springs), WV

Bath is the official municipal name for the Morgan County town most people know as Berkeley Springs. The Virginia legislature laid out Bath in 1776 around warm mineral springs, and the name Berkeley Springs later took hold through the post office and everyday use. Berkeley Springs State Park occupies the center of town, with spring water flowing at about 74.3 degrees and bathhouses continuing a tradition that brought George Washington and other colonial visitors to the area.

The town is also Morgan County’s seat, with a historic district around the park and downtown. Warm Spring Run cuts through town before reaching the Potomac, while Cacapon State Park and the Cacapon River broaden the surrounding map. The Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting gives the town a recurring event built around its most famous natural feature. The local scoop is a place with two names but one clear identity: Bath on the municipal paperwork, Berkeley Springs on the signs, and warm water at the center of both.
