About Bay View

Bay View is a small Erie County village on Sandusky Bay, at the northwestern corner of the county. The 2020 census counted 608 residents. The village sits in Margaretta Township, close to Catawba Island, Marblehead, Lakeside, Sandusky, and the Lake Erie island ferry routes. Its shoreline is the main geographic fact: houses, small businesses, overnight lodging, and views across the bay all face the same broad water.

Bay View incorporated in 1951. Most of its homes began as summer places, and many now serve year-round residents, so the village carries a seasonal layout even when the calendar is full. Fishing and nature viewing are part of the bayfront routine, while the local council handles the municipal side of a place surrounded by larger lake destinations. Bay View is less a town built around a commercial strip than a shoreline community: the bay determines the horizon, the nearby ferry ports widen the map, and the small village government keeps the place distinct.
