About Beaverdale
Beaverdale is a census-designated community in Flint River Township, Des Moines County, just north of West Burlington and northwest of Burlington. It sits in the Burlington area, with Beaverdale Road and Flint Creek organizing the local map. Flint Creek runs east toward the Mississippi, and the surrounding subdivisions grew along the road beginning in the 1950s. Because Beaverdale is not an incorporated city, water, fire protection, and other everyday services come through nearby governments and utility systems.
The older landscape is still close at hand. Prairie Grove School, a stone schoolhouse on Beaverdale Road, was built in 1879, enlarged with a 1924 frame addition, and used until 1960; it now stands as a listed historic landmark. West Burlington's water system serves the Beaverdale area, while Burlington supplies the nearest full menu of riverfront parks, trails, health care, shopping, and schools. Beaverdale is a community shaped by its edges: subdivisions beside county roads, Flint Creek running toward the river, and Burlington's city services just down the road.
