Bedias, TX

Bedias is a Grimes County city in east-central Texas, with 361 residents in the 2020 census. State Highway 90 meets Farm Roads 1696 and 2620 here, about thirty miles northeast of Navasota, in a landscape of piney woods, pasture, and small farming communities. The city incorporated in 2003, but the place name reaches further back through the Bedias people and the creeks that run through the county. The creeks and roads make Bedias a meeting point for several rural communities.

The Bedias Museum and Library gives the town an especially useful community address. It opened in 2009 inside a historic Methodist church on Main Street and combines books, local artifacts, computers, and meeting space for residents from Bedias, Iola, Madisonville, and nearby Grimes County. Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District serves the area, while the highway intersection keeps the town linked to larger markets. Bedias is a Texas city where an old regional name, a church-turned-library, farm roads, and a small civic center fit together.
