About Bejou

Bejou is a city in Mahnomen County, Minnesota, United States. The 2020 census counted 84 residents. Bejou is contained wholly within the White Earth Indian Reservation. A post office called Bejou has been in operation since 1906. The short version is that Bejou carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Bejou: its past remains attached to the places people use now. Some sources state that the town got its name from a corruption of the French word Bonjour, reasoning that the name is related to the Ojibwe word Boozhoo. Bejou is in northwestern Mahnomen County along U.S. Route 59, which leads south 8 miles to Mahnomen, the county seat, and north 16 miles to Erskine.
