Bel Air North, MD

Bel Air North begins at the northern edge of incorporated Bel Air and extends toward Maryland Route 23 and Prospect Mill Road, tying the area closely to the Harford County seat without placing it under the town government. The 2020 census counted 31,841 residents across 15.97 square miles. U.S. Route 1 crosses the area on its Baltimore–Conowingo axis. Another route preserves an older transportation story: the Bel Air and Forest Hill sections of the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail follow the former Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad, and 20 permanent signs identify railroad history and environmental points along the trail. Public destinations likewise cross the census boundary rather than gathering in a separate Bel Air North center. Harford Community College’s 352-acre main campus near Bel Air includes five miles of walking trails, a library, athletic facilities, WHFC radio, performance spaces, and the Chesapeake Gallery, whose exhibitions are open to the public.

Immediately south in the town of Bel Air, the Harford County Public Library branch serves the wider area with public computers, Wi-Fi, 3D printers, a drive-through window, and science and music kits for borrowing. Its StreamWorks children’s makerspace adds coding computers, sewing machines, an interactive projection system, and rotating STEM activities, while the Maryland Room preserves state and county collections and local oral histories.
