About Belcher
Belcher is a village in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, United States. The 2020 census counted 248 residents. Belcher is part of the Shreveport- Bossier city metropolitan statistical area. Previously named Horseshoe after the bayou that runs through the town, Belcher was renamed in 1899 after James Clinton Belcher, a former Confederate soldier and overseer of Wild Lucia Plantation. The short version is that Belcher carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Belcher: its past remains attached to the places people use now. U.S. Route 71 passes through the western side of the village, leading north 5 miles to Gilliam and south 17 miles to Shreveport.
