About Belfast
Belfast is a city and the county seat of Waldo County, Maine, situated at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River on Belfast Bay and Penobscot Bay. The British military burned Belfast in 1779 and briefly occupied it again in 1814 during the War of 1812, and the city later served as a hub for wooden boat construction materials shipped down the Penobscot River from Bangor. Public education is administered by Regional School Unit 20.
