About Bellefonte
Bellefonte is a New Castle County town two miles northeast of Wilmington, with 1,225 residents in the 2020 census. Brandywine Boulevard runs through the center between Philadelphia Pike and River Road, following the route of a streetcar line that once made Bellefonte one of Wilmington's original streetcar suburbs. The town incorporated in 1915 around the Montrose, Montrose Terrace, and Montrose Terrace Addition subdivisions. Brandywine Boulevard is still the main local strip, with resale and specialty shops, restaurants, a laundromat, a barbershop, apartments, and the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company. Philadelphia Pike adds more businesses just east, while Bellevue State Park and River Road Park sit nearby. Bellefonte Park is next to Town Hall, and the Northern Delaware Greenway runs close enough to connect the town to the wider county trail system. Bellefonte is a small Wilmington-edge town whose streetcar-era pattern still leads to its shops, town hall, and nearby parkland.
