About Belleville
Belleville is a Metro East city in southwestern Illinois, southeast of St. Louis. George Blair named it in 1814 from the French phrase meaning beautiful city, and it has long served as an important regional center. Scott Air Force Base is nearby, and the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows is one of the area's major landmarks. Belleville also has deep cultural roots, including the Belleville Philharmonic Society, founded in 1866. It feels historic, civic, and distinctly tied to the St. Louis side of Illinois.
