About Bellewood

Bellewood is a tiny home-rule city in northern Jefferson County, pressed into the Louisville metro between Brownsboro Village, Druid Hills, Louisville, and St. Matthews. A few hundred residents live within its compact boundaries, where St. Matthews surrounds much of the south and west, Louisville touches the northeast, and several nearby city lines sit within a few minutes’ drive. The city was formally incorporated by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1950.

City business is handled through a mayor and four-member commission, with clerk and treasurer contacts maintained through the city’s Louisville mailing address. That small administrative setup fits a place whose daily life spills naturally into the surrounding metro: errands, schools, parks, and larger shopping districts are close by, while Bellewood retains its own incorporation, meetings, ordinances, and street-level boundaries. Its scale makes the borders easy to miss from the road, but the commission, local records, and municipal services give Bellewood a civic identity of its own. Commission meetings and city notices give residents a regular point of contact.
