About Bellville

Bellville is a Richland County village along the Clear Fork of the Mohican River, part of the Mansfield metro. The 2020 census counted 1,963 residents. James McCluer and Jonathan Oldfield arrived in 1808, and the village later picked up a surprising gold-rush chapter when gold was reported near Dead Man's Run. The river, the bike trail, and the old flour-mill area give Bellville a practical local layout, while Clear Fork Valley schools keep the center tied to nearby families. Bellville's gold story is the kind of thing locals pull out when somebody assumes the only mining rush happened out west.

The Clear Fork valley does most of the everyday work now, with Route 97, the trail, the river, and Bellville Elementary all close to the village core. The river also gives the village a shady edge in summer. Bellville is a small north-central Ohio place with a river running through it, a gold rumor turned local legend, and a school-and-trail map that keeps the old village connected.
