Located about 20 miles south of downtown Kansas City in Cass County, Belton offers an easy suburban lifestyle with plenty of small-town character. Interstate 49 runs straight through town, making downtown commutes simple, while Route 58 handles most daily errands with a wide mix of supermarkets, big-box stores, and casual dining. The heart of the community is Old Towne, where you will find historic homes and locally owned shops near the train tracks, while newer subdivisions and distribution hubs like the Southview Commerce Center spread toward the outskirts. Commutes are generally manageable, but because train crossings and shopping traffic along Route 58 can create delays, driving the area during peak hours is a smart first step when house hunting.

Belton dates back to the 1870s as a railroad stop, and that heritage is still on full display around Main Street. The Old City Hall Museum celebrates local history and ties to figures like Dale Carnegie and Carry A. Nation, and you can still ride vintage passenger trains courtesy of the Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad. On running weekends, the depot area fills with families, visitors, and seasonal festivities. It gives the community a walkable gathering hub for car shows, farmers markets, and holiday parades, providing a welcoming local setting away from the commercial strip along the highway.

For recreation, the city manages over 230 acres of parkland alongside the High Blue Wellness Center, which features indoor pools, gym courts, and fitness classes for all ages. Memorial Park is a favorite for warm afternoons thanks to its outdoor water park, sports fields, and playgrounds, while Cleveland Lake offers a quieter spot for fishing and walking. Most of the city attends the Belton School District, but several neighborhoods on the east side fall into the neighboring Raymore-Peculiar district. Finding the right fit mostly comes down to whether you prefer the charm of historic Old Towne or the modern convenience of the newer developments near the highway.
