About Ben Arnold
Ben Arnold developed as a rail stop seven miles north of Cameron on U.S. 77 in northern Milam County. The 2020 Census counted 117 residents and 66 housing units in the CDP. The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway reached the site in 1890, and the community was named for Bennie Arnold, a three-year-old girl who served as mascot on the first train into the station. A post office opened in 1892; by 1896, Ben Arnold had three churches, a district school, and 125 residents. Southern Pacific abandoned the track to Cameron and Rosebud in 1977. Its highway setting carries a railroad-era origin.
