Bertrand, NE

Bertrand is a Phelps County village of 709 residents in the 2020 census, established in 1884 when the railroad reached the area and named for a railroad official. The village sits in south-central Nebraska's farm country, where the rail line helped turn open prairie into a settled town. Its history is still kept in practical institutions: Bertrand Public Schools operates two schools for prekindergarten through grade 12, and the community school stands on School Street.
