About Berwyn

Berwyn was platted beside the railroad in 1886, when the Lincoln Land Company laid out a town north of the track and the first train arrived on August 26. Local tradition connects the name to a railroad surveyor. The village now sits on Nebraska Highway 2, about 75 miles west of Grand Island, in a county shaped by the South and Middle Loup rivers and their tributary valleys. Sorensen City Park and the Heritage House give Berwyn recognizable civic and historical places within its compact grid, while the highway continues the transportation role that first brought the town into being.
