Between, GA

Between is one of those Walton County names that doubles as a map clue. The town sits between Monroe and Loganville, and the name was chosen after residents resisted annexation by either larger neighbor. Permanent settlement dates to the 1850s; Between incorporated in 1908. Its small footprint puts it among the roads and farm country of central Walton County, without a large commercial center of its own.

Historic maps, New Hope Church Cemetery, and the James Berrien Upshaw House give the tiny town its visible reference points. Walton County’s wider story runs through farming, cotton, mills, and manufacturing, while Between remains a small civic place among those older working landscapes.
