Beverly, MA

Known as the birthplace of the American Navy, Beverly wears its long maritime history on its sleeve. Back in 1775, George Washington outfitted the armed schooner Hannah right in Beverly Harbor, sparking both the nation's naval fleet and a friendly, ongoing debate with neighboring Marblehead over who claimed the title first. Today, that coastal heritage still sets the tone for daily life. Sitting on the North Shore just across the water from Salem, the city combines historic neighborhoods, ocean views, and a relaxed seaside atmosphere that makes it a popular landing spot for people moving out of Boston.

The local economy has shifted from historic manufacturing into a diverse mix of healthcare, higher education, and modern commerce. The massive former shoe machinery complex is now the Cummings Center, an active hub that houses hundreds of businesses, tech offices, and medical practices. Major institutions like Beverly Hospital and Endicott College anchor the community with steady jobs and local resources. Getting into Boston is remarkably convenient as well, thanks to multiple commuter rail stations scattered across town that reach North Station in roughly forty minutes.

Rather than centering on a single strip, Beverly is laid out like a collection of distinct neighborhoods. Downtown revolves around Cabot Street, where you will find the historic Cabot and Larcom theaters, art galleries tied to Montserrat College of Art, and plenty of independent restaurants and coffee spots. Out east, Beverly Farms has a quieter, classic coastal village feel with its own train depot and local shops, while North Beverly holds most of the everyday retail and grocery plazas. This setup gives residents the freedom to settle into a quiet residential pocket while staying close to dining and entertainment.

Waterfront recreation is a big part of living here, anchored by public spots like Lynch Park. Set on a scenic point overlooking the water, the park features two beaches, open lawns, a splash pad, and a popular summer concert series in the rose garden. Community traditions draw neighbors together throughout the year, highlighted by the annual Beverly Homecoming festival in the summer with its food trucks, LobsterFest, and harbor fireworks. Between the beaches, boating scene, and walkable downtown, Beverly delivers an easygoing coastal lifestyle with plenty of character.
