About Big Delta
Big Delta is a Southeast Fairbanks census-designated place at the confluence of the Delta and Tanana rivers, which gives the place its name. The location became a transportation hinge: beginning in 1899, the U.S. Army built a pack trail from Valdez to Eagle that crossed the Tanana near the confluence. Big Delta State Historical Park preserves part of that route and the Rika Road area, where Alaska's interior travel history is still on display. Big Delta is an Alaska river meeting with a trail story written across it.
