About Big River
Big River is a San Bernardino County census-designated place on the west bank of the Colorado River, across from Arizona and within the broad desert landscape around Needles and the lower river. The water is the town's organizing fact: homes and roads sit beside the river, Deer Island lies across the current channel, and weekends can shift toward boating, fishing, swimming, or the shade of the river park. The community is also within the Colorado River Indian Tribes reservation, a reminder that the landscape's history reaches further back than the modern development.

The Big River Community Services District handles park and recreation work, with Big River Community Park providing restrooms, river access, signs, and a place for volunteers to keep the grounds open. Board meetings, park repairs, donated labor, and seasonal river traffic form the local calendar. Big River does not have a conventional main street; its center is the water's edge, the park entrance, the service district office, and the roads that bring residents down to the Colorado.
