Big Spring is a quiet, rural community in western Washington County, set along Route 56 just south of Clear Spring. The area takes its name from a powerful natural spring that flows from a cave on historic Spring Meadow Farm, which once powered an 18th-century grist mill serving nearby Fort Frederick.
