Big Stone Gap is a town in Wise County, Virginia, historically centered around the Appalachian coal industry. Formerly known as Mineral City and Three Forks before taking its current name in 1888, the community of approximately 5,162 hosts the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park and is served by Wise County Public Schools for public education.
