Big Stone Gap, VA

Tucked into the mountains of Southwest Virginia, Big Stone Gap is a scenic town of about 5,000 residents with deep Appalachian roots and a relaxed pace of life. Originally established during the regional coal boom, the community has held onto its historic character. Downtown features the Southwest Virginia Museum inside a grand 1890s mansion, local shops, and the June Tolliver House, home to the long-running Trail of the Lonesome Pine outdoor drama. The Powell River winds directly through town, giving residents a great paved Greenbelt trail for walking, running, and cycling.
