Bloomington, CA

A current civic meeting place in Bloomington sits inside a public park opened in 2022. The Bloomington Recreation and Park District's seven-acre Ayala Park added a community center, three play structures, a zip line, a lighted basketball court, exercise stations, picnic shelters, separate dog areas, open lawn, and a free splash pad. The center's largest room has a capacity of 238, while its conference and craft rooms support meetings and programs. Bloomington is an unincorporated community between Rialto and Fontana, so county bodies handle local land-use planning; the Bloomington Municipal Advisory Council meets at Ayala Park Community Center. Bloomington's population was 24,339 in the 2020 census. Modern freight and industrial land uses build on a longer transportation history.

The Semi-Tropic Land and Water Company, formed in 1887, developed the original settlement. After Riverside Portland Cement built a plant near the Crestmore quarries, it constructed a standard-gauge employee railroad that opened through Bloomington in 1911. The Union Pacific Alhambra Subdivision still crosses the community and includes a hump yard. Industrial development remains a current planning question: San Bernardino County's Valley Region project list included environmental review for the Bloomington Business Park in 2026. Public programming is not confined to Ayala Park. The Bloomington Branch Library provides study space and maintains a calendar of children's activities; its July 2026 schedule included preschool story time, science and engineering projects, and craft sessions.
