Bloomington and Indiana University grew up side by side, creating a classic college town with deep historic roots. Tying these areas together is the paved B-Line Trail, a popular greenway where runners, dog walkers, and cyclists commute comfortably between neighborhoods and the center of town.

Kirkwood Avenue serves as the main artery connecting the vibrant downtown courthouse square to IU's iconic Sample Gates. This walkable corridor is lined with independent bookstores, sidewalk cafes, and dozens of international eateries representing cuisines from all over the world. Living alongside a major research university also brings cultural perks rarely found in towns of this size. Thanks to institutions like the Jacobs School of Music, the Eskenazi Museum of Art, and the IU Auditorium, locals enjoy a steady calendar of world-class concerts, touring Broadway shows, and art exhibits throughout the year.

On Saturday mornings from spring through fall, neighbors gather at Showers Common for the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, picking up fresh local produce, baked goods, and flowers while chatting with local growers. In the autumn, downtown hosts the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, which fills multiple venues and street stages with musicians from across the globe.
