Bloomingville, OH

Bloomingville is a small census-designated place in northern Oxford Township, Erie County, Ohio, at Mason Road and Patten Tract Road. The 2020 census counted 255, and the place is part of the Sandusky metropolitan area. Its older map was a cluster of farmhouses around the intersection, with the Oxford Grange Hall serving as a long-running community center. The surrounding countryside still matters, but so does the unusual neighbor to the northeast: a former World War II munitions tract that became NASA's Plum Brook Station.

Bloomingville was first settled in 1811, laid out in 1817, and had a post office from 1815 to 1906. NASA acquired the old ordnance property in stages beginning in 1957; today the nearby facility is NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility, formerly Plum Brook Station. Erie Sand Barrens State Nature Preserve lies about 1.4 miles east-northeast, adding a glacial Lake Warren landscape to the local map. The local scoop is that Bloomingville is a farm-road crossroads with a nineteenth-century post office, a NASA test complex, and sand barrens just beyond the fields.
