Bloomsbury, NJ

On the south bank of the Musconetcong River, Bloomsbury grew from Johnson's Iron Works into a Hunterdon County borough. Robert Johnson's charcoal works used ore from Musconetcong Mountain, producing the wrought-iron blooms that may have helped give the borough its current name. Bloomsbury incorporated in 1905 and now sits just off Interstate 78 at Exit 7, with the river and the highway defining its practical edges. The borough school serves prekindergarten through eighth grade, while the surrounding road network reaches Warren County communities across the river. Bloomsbury's older iron industry, river crossing, and nearby rail history are still visible in the borough's historic district. A small New Jersey borough, it carries an industrial name into a present-day river-and-highway map.
