Blossom, TX

Blossom is a Lamar County city on U.S. 82 and Farm Road 196, about nine miles east of Paris. The 2020 census counted 1,402 residents. Prairiland Independent School District serves the city, and the surrounding country remains a mix of farms, pasture, and small-town roads. Paris supplies the larger regional job and shopping connection, while Blossom keeps its own city government, school history, and name from the older Blossom Prairie settlement. City services, school buses, and farm roads still radiate from the same small highway town.

A post office opened here in 1849 under the name Blossom Prairie. The Texas and Pacific Railway reached the settlement in 1876, turning it into a shipping point for lumber, railroad ties, livestock, and grain. The town incorporated in 1886 and shortened its name two years later. Later, a dam on Cuthand Creek formed City Lake, and many residents came to live in Blossom while working in Paris. The railroad past, Prairiland school district, and highway routes still give the city its local shape.
