About Blue Springs
Blue Springs took its name from a hillside spring that supplied campers, traders, and Santa Fe expeditions by 1825. Its water and the demand for supplies encouraged a gristmill and permanent settlement near a Little Blue River tributary. The Jackson County city lies 19 miles east of Kansas City and had 58,604 residents in 2020. Fleming Park encompasses Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo; its 7,809 acres include 1,690 acres of water. Mid-Continent Public Library operates two branches in Blue Springs, and Missouri Town 1855 is nearby.
