Bogart, GA

Bogart is a town spread across Oconee and Clarke counties on the edge of the Athens area. The 2020 census counted 1,326 residents. The place began as Osceola, took the name Bogart in 1892 for a railroad agent, and incorporated in 1905. When the train line between Athens and Atlanta arrived in the 1890s, Bogart gained a depot, cotton gins, mercantile stores, a bank, gristmills, and other pieces of a working rail town. Today Main Street and the Historic Agricultural Museum keep that older center visible, while Oconee County schools serve much of the town with Dove Creek and North Oconee connections.

A small portion in Clarke County follows a different school map, linking to Athens-Clarke County. Bogart sits near Athens and the Oconee County line, so local routines mix town services, school runs, and metro-area trips. The local scoop is a railroad town that became part of the Athens orbit without losing its two-county edge or its Main Street identity. Bogart still feels like a place built around a road and rail crossing.
